In the interests of the resident birds, The Haven is not open to the public with the exception of our Annual Open Day which will be held on 7th August 2011

Advice

If you find a baby bird on the ground, please do not pick it up unless you are absolutely sure that it needs help or if it is not fully feathered. Babies will often leave the nest before they can fly well, and the parents will feed them on the ground. If you are in any doubt, please feel free to ring us for advice.

If you do find a sick, injured or baby bird that is in need of help, we would be more than happy to take it in but we would ask that you bring it to us, as we are unable to collect.

Place the bird on a towel in a dark box with air holes. Do not attempt to put water into the beak of any bird as it may get into the airway. A good stop gap if the bird cannot be brought in quickly is cat biscuits soaked in boiling water, then cooled. Break off small pieces and feed. This will give nutrition and moisture.

This does not apply to birds of Prey who need specialist food.

We do not make any charge for taking in a bird, but please bear in mind that the Haven is funded entirely by donations, we do not have the finances of the big operations such as the RSPCA and a contribution towards the cost of food, medications, vet fees etc would be gratefully received.

We often have people bringing in birds who need surgery and medications, which we have to pay for. Many times, they then put a few coppers in our collection tin.

We love the fact that we are able to help so many birds and indeed, the community as a whole, but we do need money in order to keep the Haven open, so please, spare a little thought as to the costs involved with the particular bird you bring in and help if you can.

If you cannot afford a donation, don't worry, we will not ask you for one and the bird will still be welcome.

Thank you for reading.
